Overview
Miss Kathryn McCarthy is a colorectal surgeon with an interest in pelvic floor conditions and continence. She trained in Medicine at University College London between 1993 and 1998. After this she undertook surgical training in London and Wessex. In 2005 Kathryn was awarded a higher postgraduate degree (MD) from the University of London for a translational research project in Molecular Endocrinology. After completing surgical training in 2011, she undertook an additional fellowship year in advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery in Glasgow.
Kathryn has been a consultant at North Bristol NHS Trust since May 2012. Her main interest is pelvic surgery with two previous secondments into gynaecology to further her practice – Southampton and North Bristol. She has set up a GI Physiology laboratory specialising in treatment of evacuatory disorders. She is currently expanding this laboratory to include a service for women with previous obstetric injuries leading to faecal incontinence (old and new). She has been recently elected as a proctology committee member for the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (Royal College of Surgeons of England)
Kathryn is a passionate advocate of pelvic floor surgery and continence care.
